Aguero doing what he does best

One of the most feared strikers in the Premier League has to be Sergio Aguero. The amazing Argentine’s heroics were overshadowed by Luis Suarez’s last season but now that the Uruguayan is out of the picture the title of the best striker in England is Sergio Aguero’s to lose. The 26-year-old endeared himself to Manchester City fans right from his debut and acquired a legendary status at the club after scoring the goal against QPR that gifted City their first Premier League trophy. It’s been an incredible journey for the striker and you’ll get to go through it in these amazing Sergio Aguero facts.

Sergio Aguero was born on 2nd June 1988 in Quilmes, Argentina to Leonel a taxi driver and Adriana a housewife. Aguero was one of seven children and saw very hard times as a child but it was his love for football that helped him come up in life.

Aguero’s skills as a striker were soon spotted by journalist Eduardo Gonzales who recommended him to Independiente who signed him up when he was nine. The young Argentine blossomed at the club’s youth side and quickly made his way up to the first team and became the youngest player to debut in the Argentine First Division at the age of 15 years and 35 days, which broke the great Diego Maradona’s record.

News of Aguero’s extraordinary skills made it way to Europe and it wasn’t long before Atletico Madrid signed him for a record fee of €23 million. Even though it’s been a while since Aguero left Independiente he still holds the club very close to his heart and was even willing to play for them while at City when they were facing relegation. The striker himself has also stated that he will definitely return to his boyhood club one day.

Aguero grew even better at Atletico and formed a lethal partnership with Diego Forlan and helped Atletico qualify for the Champions League for the first time in a decade. The striker performed brilliantly in the finals of the inaugural season of the Europa League against Fulham in 2010 and assisted both the goals which helped Atletico lift the cup. Aguero’s performance in the finals caught the attention of Manchester City who signed Aguero for £38 million on a five year deal.

The Argentine simply exploded at City and scored an astonishing 30 goals in all competition in his debut season including the dramatic goal against QPR which handed City their first Premier League trophy. With Aguero in the squad City have won 2 Premier League titles, 1 Football League Cup and 1 Community Shield which is currently the most successful spell in the history of the club. Aguero has begun the new season on a high and has scored 2 goals in his last 3 games.

The striker tied the knot with Giannina Maradona, the youngest daughter of Argentine legend Diego Maradona in 2009 but the pair have since separated. Aguero has a son named Benjamin from the relationship. The striker is currently in a relationship with singer Karina Tejeda.

The striker’s nickname ‘Kun’ is derived from Japanese manga cartoon ‘Kum-Kum’ which Aguero loved watching as a child. Aguero also has a tattoo of his name in Tengwar, the language spoken in the Lord Of The Rings, on his right arm along with a tattoo of his son’s name and birth date on his left arm.

Aguero owes his incredible form on the pitch to his pre match rituals one of which includes him rubbing his hands together before walking onto the field. The striker once spoke about these rituals saying "I suppose my pre-match ritual would include rubbing my hands together while walking up the stairs on to the pitch. I also try not to focus on the match in order to stay relaxed. I ensure to get plenty of sleep before the game. And I like to hang around with friends, listen to music, and prepare myself mentally."

As stated before the striker still loves his boyhood club Independiente and even tried to fund the transfer of five players to the club which would see them re-enter Argentina’s top flight. The deal didn’t go through in the end but his massive gesture was appreciated by many.
