Gonzalo Higuain has slammed his critics over calling him fat

Juventus started their defence of the Scudetto this season with a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina. This was supposed to be Juventus' new marquee signing, Gonzalo Higuain's first home game since he completed his move from Napoli for a whopping €90million deal. Many have thought that the Argentine has reported back to Turin with a few added pounds as he was criticised for looking out of shape during his first training day for the Italian champions.

Higuain gave a befitting reply to his critics as he scored the winner on his home debut and gave Juventus all three points on the first match week of Serie A. The Argentine was quoted saying, "It is better if you keep saying I'm fat, as I will continue to score goals. Come on, I'm fine, I have trained for 20 days and I honestly do not understand all this interest on my condition."

Though he played less than half an hour for Massimiliano Allegri's side, Higuain made an immediate impact off the bench.

After scoring a brilliant scoring against Fiorentina, Higuain added that this was a dream start to his new life in Turin. the Argentine striker added, " You always dream of nights like this, but they do not always come true. This time everything went like a dream. The goal? From the outside it might look easy, but I guarantee you that it was very difficult." Juventus started the game well as they lead through Sami Khedira's strike but Nikola Kalinic equalised for Fiorentina before Gonzalo Higuain's winner from a tight angle.

Allegri seemed pleased with the performance Argentine as he said, "Higuain was very good and that goal was not at all easy to take. It was important for him and for the team. There are still a lot of areas we can improve in but I’m very happy with this test. We have made a much better start than last season and we have got three points in the bag." This was a much-needed goal for Higuain as he was criticised a lot after appearing to gain a lot of weight over the summer as former Real Madrid striker, Robert Prosinecki even referred to him as a 'fat little pig'.

After missing a majority of the preseason, Gonzalo Higuain will look to improve his fitness levels as he has a major role to play if Juventus want to secure their record sixth straight League title.
