Sadio Mane was on fire against Tottenham as he scored a brace to clinch Liverpool’s 1st PL win of 2017.

Welcome to the Sportskeeda Power Ranking of attackers in the Premier League. The ranking is done after every gameweek on a cumulative basis to decipher the final top 10 come May. The main criteria for ranking the players is their contribution to goals, either by scoring them, or creating them which includes deflections and penalties won as well.

When two or more players are involved in an equal number of goals, the type of assist (direct or deflected), the importance of the goal/assist, the consistency in performances and the minutes per goal/assist is considered to rank them.

So, a player scoring/assisting in three consecutive games will have a higher ranking than a player picking the same number of goals/assists in one game and drawing blanks in the rest. Similarly, a player scoring winning goals, having better minutes per goal/assist will occupy a higher position.

The power rankings further act as a guide for players of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) because the list consists of the most consistent players, as well as relevant statistics for fantasy managers to act upon.

Firstly, the previous Gameweek’s poll on the best attacker for Gameweek 24 clinched by Manchester United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan with 33% of the total votes for his superb performance against Leicester. The fact that he won ahead of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku who bagged four goals speaks volumes of the quality of Mkhitaryan’s performance.

You can vote for this week’s best attacker at the end of the article.

Gameweek 25 saw league leaders Chelsea drop points at Burnley, while the Manchester clubs and Arsenal picked up routine wins. Liverpool rediscovered their mojo with a 2-0 win against Tottenham. Meanwhile Swansea went 4 points clear of the drop as Paul Clement continues to do a fine job as manager.

Let us first take a look at the watchlist for the gameweek.

Watchlist

Sadio Mane

Gameweek 23 ranking – N/A

After slipping out of the power ranking due to his participation in the AFCON, Mane was back to his best against Tottenham as he showed what Liverpool were missing during his absence. He scored a couple and could have had more if not for Hugo Lloris’ terrific goalkeeping.

Ryan Fraser

Gameweek 23 ranking – 10th

The Bournemouth winger failed to make an impact against Manchester City and as a result gets relegated to the watchlist at the end of this gameweek.

Jermain Defoe

Gameweek 23 ranking – Watchlist

The Sunderland striker failed to follow up his brace from last gameweek’s thrashing of Crystal Palace as Southampton handed a similar 4-0 drubbing for David Moyes’ side.

Now let’s take a look at the top 10 attackers on the completion of Gameweek 25.

#10 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Gylfi Sigurdsson has been in form of late for Swansea.

Gameweek 24 ranking – Watchlist

Match performance – one assist and Swansea’s lynchpin

Goals involved in since Gameweek 14 – 8

The Swansea midfield wizard has been in terrific form ever since Paul Clement took over as Swansea boss and he picked another assist against reigning champions Leicester City when he outstretched his left foot to guide the ball towards Martin Olsson who scored Swansea’s second goal.

The Iceland international’s string of good performances finally sees him break into the top 10 of the power ranking.

Fantasy Tip – Sigurdsson has been involved in 5 goals in his last 4 games for Swansea.

#9 Diego Costa

Diego Costa (in blue) in action against Burnley.

Gameweek 24 ranking – 9th

Match performance – no goal/assist and Chelsea drop 2 points

Goals involved in since Gameweek 14 – 8

Diego Costa scored a blank against Burnley as Antonio Conte’s Chelsea dropped two points at Turf Moor. The Spaniard has hit a goal drought with only one goal in his last five starts.

Although he holds on to his place this gameweek, Costa needs to find form soon if he has to prevent himself from slipping out of the top 10.

Fantasy Tip – Diego Costa has a good chance of regaining his form as his next 5 matches are against the bottom 12 teams.

#8 Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas (right) takes a shot against Burnley after coming on as a substitute.

Gameweek 24 ranking – 8th

Match performance – no goal/assist and still remains the most effective substitute

Goals involved in since Gameweek 14 – 8

Fabregas’ struggles with game-time continue as he makes another substitute appearance. However, this means he constantly runs the risk of having less time to make an impact as was seen in this game.

He holds on to his position as well like his Chelsea team-mate Diego Costa and remains highly effective despite coming on from the bench for most of the games.

Fantasy Tip – Chelsea need a playmaker for creating chances and given the next 5 games are against the bottom 12 teams, Fabregas might have a good chance to start.

#7 Romelu Lukaku

MIDDLESBROUGH, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 11: Romelu Lukaku of Everton arrives at the stadium prior to the Premier League match between Middlesbrough and Everton at Riverside Stadium on February 11, 2017 in Middlesbrough, England. (Photo by Jan Kruger/Getty Images)
Romelu Lukaku drew a blank after the high of last gameweek where he bagged four goals.

Gameweek 24 ranking – 6th

Match performance – no goal/assist and a blip after last gameweek’s quartet of goals

Goals involved in since Gameweek 14 – 10

The Belgian plundered in four goals last gameweek, but failed to repeat the heroics this time around against Victor Valdes and Middlesbrough. The match became a display of goalkeeping prowess between the Everton and Middlesbrough’s no.1 and ended as a goalless draw.

The blank sees him drop a place from last gameweek’s ranking. However, he remains pretty close to the top five as most of their results favour him.

Fantasy Tip – Lukaku faces Sunderland at Goodison Park up next and given Sunderland’s position coupled with Everton’s home form, the Belgian is a good bet for a huge haul.

#6 Raheem Sterling

BOURNEMOUTH, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 13: Raheem Sterling of Manchester City celebrates after scoring the opening goal during the Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City at Vitality Stadium on February 13, 2017 in Bournemouth, England. (Photo by Stu Forster/Getty Images)
Raheem Sterling celebrates on scoring the opening goal against Bournemouth.

Gameweek 24 ranking – 7th

Match performance – one goal and in a fine run of form

Goals involved in since Gameweek 14 – 10

Raheem Sterling has struck good form of late and it continued during Manchester City’s trip to Bournemouth. He showed good anticipation to score at the far post as Leroy Sane’s cross was deflected on to his path.

He was involved in the second goal as well with his superb wing play leading to Tyrone Mings scoring an own goal. Sterling has formed a superb understanding with the star players around him and Pep Guardiola’s side is reaping the rewards as a result.

Fantasy Tip – Raheem Sterling has been involved in 5 goals in his last 4 games for Manchester City.

#5 Harry Kane

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 11: Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur and Lucas Leiva of Liverpool compete for the ball during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on February 11, 2017 in Liverpool, England. (Photo by Clive Brunskill/Getty Images)
Harry Kane (left) failed to make an impact against Liverpool.

Gameweek 24 ranking – 5th

Match performance – no goal/assist and nullified by Liverpool

Goals involved in since Gameweek 14 – 11

Harry Kane had a tough game against Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s defence stifled him successfully and prevented the Tottenham striker from helping his side score.

The blank keeps him in 5th place yet again as he missed a great chance to go above his Spurs’ team-mates.

Fantasy Tip – Harry Kane has a relatively easy fixture list till he faces Arsenal after 9 games, so given his ability, he remains a consistent striking option.

#4 Dele Alli

Dele Alli’s purple patch has ended as he failed to score yet again.

Gameweek 24 ranking – 4th

Match performance – no goal/assist and end of the purple patch

Goals involved in since Gameweek 14 – 11

Dele Alli suffered the same fate as his club and country team-mate Kane as he too failed to score as well. In fact, this is the third consecutive game that Alli has failed to score, signalling the end of his purple patch.

He remains in 4th place for now but needs to buckle up or run the risk of being run over by the attackers below him.

Fantasy Tip – Alli has contributed for his team’s goals in 7 of the last 12 gameweeks, so it can be expected he finds form soon.

#3 Christian Eriksen

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 11: Christian Eriksen (C) of Tottenham Hotspur controls the ball under pressure of Georginio Wijnaldum (L) and Jordan Henderson (R) of Liverpool during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on February 11, 2017 in Liverpool, England. Christian Eriksen (centre) failed to create a single chance against Liverpool.

Gameweeks at top – 2

Gameweek 24 ranking – 3rd

Match performance – no goal/assist and in a slump in form

Goals involved in since Gameweek 14 – 12

After a slew of top performances that propelled him to the top of the power ranking, Eriksen has seen a massive slump in form in recent gameweeks. And there was not much of an improvement this weekend as well as he failed to create a single chance against Liverpool and was consequently substituted with Mauricio Pochettino’s side chasing a two-goal deficit.

The Dane has now gone 4 games without making a goal contribution and he will be itching to correct that in the coming games.

Fantasy Tip – Christian Eriksen’s current form implies he can be watched for a couple of games before picking him in the FPL.

#2 Zlatan Ibrahimovic

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 11: Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Manchester United and Younes Kaboul of Watford compete for the ball during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Watford at Old Trafford on February 11, 2017 in Manchester, England. (Photo by Mark Thompson/Getty Images)
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (left) picked up an assist for Martial’s goal against Watford.

Gameweeks at top – 3

Gameweek 24 ranking – 2nd

Match performance – one assist and maintains pace with the ranking leader

Goals involved in since Gameweek 14 – 13

Ibrahimovic’s response to going two games without a goal contribution for the first time since gameweek 14 is a positive one as he followed up last gameweek’s goal against Leicester with an assist for Anthony Martial’s goal against Watford.

The assist nudges him ahead of Christian Eriksen while maintaining pace with the leader of the rankings.

Fantasy Tip – Zlatan Ibrahimovic faces three teams in the bottom-half of the table next and can be expected to deliver given he is the most important player in Jose Mourinho’s side.

#1 Alexis Sanchez

LONDON, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 11: Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal celebrates scoring the opening goal during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Hull City at Emirates Stadium on February 11, 2017 in London, England. (Photo by Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images)
Alexis Sanchez has been at the top of the power ranking for more gameweeks than any other player.

Gameweeks at top – 6

Gameweek 24 ranking – 1st

Match performance – two goals and the attacker involved in most goals in PL this season

Goals involved in since Gameweek 14 – 14

Alexis Sanchez made up for last week’s blank with a couple of goals against Hull City and has been involved in more goals than any other player since gameweek 14 and since the start of the season as well.

He scored the first one controversially as the ball went in off his hand. He then sealed the win with a late penalty after Hull defender Andrea Ranocchia was sent off for handball. The goals ensure Sanchez keeps the top spot for another gameweek with ease.

Fantasy Tip – Alexis Sanchez has made a goal contribution in 10 of the last 12 gameweeks, more than any other player and definitely should be on your team.
