Sourav Ganguly and current La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid have submitted a joint bid to purchase the Kolkata franchise of the Indian Super League (ISL), according to a TOI report.

Initially Ganguly and Atletico had purchased the bid documents separately but later the Spanish club approached the former India cricket captain to form a consortium and the proposal was accepted.

This tie-up has certainly strengthened Ganguly’s bid for the Kolkata franchise and as a result Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has eventually made a bid for Delhi instead.

There have been other joint bids as well like John Abraham has joined hands with Shillong Lajong for the Guwahati franchise with Indian football icon Bhaichung Bhutia also involved.

Meanwhile Sachin Tendulkar is reportedly involved with PVP ventures for the Kochi franchise while IPL’s Rajasthan Royals are also among the bidders.

The final eight franchises and their owners are expected to be announced in the second week of April.
