According to Sky Sports, Liverpool are set to boost their squad further with the addition of right back Nathanial Clyne from Southampton. The transfer fee reported is £12.5m and the English right-back could sign a a five-year deal, subject to a medical.

The Reds have been quite active in the transfer window so far, with manager Brendan Rodgers looking to strengthen the club after a disappointing 2014/15 season. The Merseyside club finished sixth last season after finishing second the season before.

Clyne, 24, has been ever present in the Saints lineup since signing for them in the summer of 2012 from Crystal Palace, after a stellar season saw him being voted the club’s player of the season. Following three impressive seasons in the top flight, helping the Saints fight for European football, Clyne has been targeted by a number of suitors, most notably Manchester United.

Their arch rivals seem to have won the battle though, with the Saints accepting the improved bid from the Merseyside club, having initially rejected a £10m offer in May. The English right back looks like the ideal replacement for the now out-of-contract Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan, whose knee injury could well see him miss the rest of 2015.

Clyne looks all set to follow summer signings Roberto Firminio, James Milner, Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez to Anfield.
