The year 2015 is done and dusted and boy what a year it has been! Football fans from all over the world were treated to some memorable moments throughout the year. Catalan giants Barcelona won an incredible five trophies out of a possible six including an unprecedented second treble.

Meanwhile in the Premier League, Leicester City who were involved in a late surge to save themselves from the drop to the second tier last season, astonishingly finished the year joint top of the league standings. Chelsea’s dramatic fall from grace was also one of the most talked about stories in world football.

The fans were spoiled with moments of individual brilliance, tricks and flicks, and of course, mesmerising goals which were plenty in number to say the least over the course of the year.

Here we take a look at the top scorers in the domestic leagues across Europe in the calendar year.

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo stole the march in the race to become the top scorer in the calendar year of 2015 ahead of Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi as he ended the year with an impressive 37 goals. Though Real Madrid had a year to forget, it did not cull Ronaldo’s relentless pursuit of goals as his personal numbers keep getting better and better.

The deadly attacking trio of Barcelona of Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar popularly known as the ‘MSN’ propelled their side to five major trophies including the La Liga and the Champions League. Messi, the lynchpin of the Barca juggernaut scored 34 goals overall while the Uruguayan Suarez struck 30. Brazilian sensation Neymar enjoyed a stellar year as he ended up with 25 goals to his name.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has lit up the Bundesliga this season with his goal scoring exploits for Borussia Dortmund which saw him notch 29 goals in the past year. Meanwhile, former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain who is also on a hot streak this season, has scored 27 goals.

Tottenham and English striker Harry Kane had a breakthrough 2014/15 season and despite a brief goalless spell at the start of the current season, he has found his form and has been back among the goals amassing 27 goals in the calendar year.

Leicester City, who are in the midst of a superlative league campaign, have striker Jamie Vardy to thank for as he has been sensational this season. He also currently tops the league’s goal scoring charts. He is joined by the Premier League contingent of Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Aguero and Olivier Giroud who all have 19 strikes to their name in 2015.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues his goal scoring heroics with 26 this year as Bayern Munich’s attacking duo of Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller scored 25 and 20 goals respectively.
