A pair of limited edition Adidas Predators boots designed to celebrate the final games of Steven Gerrard at Liverpool have sold for £40,200 on eBay, according to Mirror. Gerrard played an incredible 710 games for his boyhood club and amassed 120 goals. The Anfield club hero recently donated the signed, limited-edition Predators to ‘The Anfield Wrap’ to help raise money for the British Red Cross Europe Refugee Appeal.

Although Gerrard's last game at Anfield was a 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace and his final game ended in a heavy 6-1 loss to Stoke City, the Merseyside fans paid little heed to that as there were a whopping 185 bids made for the Legend’s last club boots and one fan doled out a staggering £40,200 to claim the ownership of the rare boots. Only 17 such boots were produced by Adidas.

The former England and Liverpool captain is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation. Gerrard joined the Liverpool academy at the age of 9 and signed his first professional contract with the club at the age of 17 in 1997.

In his 17 years of career at the Merseyside club, the ace midfielder got lucrative offers from the biggest clubs of Europe, but the local hero never considered any offers as Liverpool was home to him. The 35-year-old left Liverpool for the MLS club LA Galaxy in 2015, despite some concrete offers from a host of Premier League clubs. Gerrard explained, he could not play in the Premier League because he could never imagine playing against his beloved club.

The red and white boot is unique as it has YNWA scribed across the heels, it bears Gerrard’s No.8 and also has a touching farewell message inscribed inside, that says: You leave a legend, you’ll return a hero. The city of Liverpool is always with you. You’ll never walk alone.”

British Red Cross thanks Gerrard

Senior service manager for the local British Red Cross branch, Rob Arnold thanked Gerrard for the incredible donation. He said, “Steven Gerrard epitomises the spirit of Liverpool.

“A local boy who has never lost touch with his roots, is passionate about the city and its people and recognises that Liverpool is a city that cares.

“This is the Liverpool that came together to organise the fantastic ‘With Love from Liverpool’ concert in just a few days and a city that has given its support and welcome to refugees and asylum seekers for many years.

“The British Red Cross would like to thank Steven Gerrard for his generous and unique donation to our European Refugee Crisis Appeal.”
