Struggling West Bromwich Albion need a quick turnaround

Tony Pulis needs to turn things around at West Brom

One set of fans who won't be looking forward to the end of the international break are the regulars at the Hawthorns as their beloved West Bromwich Albion are currently in the middle of a ten-game run without a victory.

West Brom got off to a great start this season with three consecutive wins to start the season-- two in the Premier League and one in the League Cup-- but it has all been downhill since then for Tony Pulis and his team. In their last ten games, they have drawn four and lost six which includes getting knocked out of the League Cup by Manchester City.

Tony Pulis has never had a reputation for playing particularly good football but his teams have always been hard to beat and have generally got results. This current West Brom side are certainly hard to beat with just two of their six defeats coming by more than one goal.

However, Pulis and West Brom are in a result-oriented business and for now, they aren't winning games which puts Pulis and the club itself under pressure as teams at the bottom end of the Premier League are never shy to pull the trigger with so much at stake financially and relegation can see a club go into catastrophic financial meltdown.

Pulis has an experienced squad at his disposal with only three of the twenty-three players he has fielded in the league this season being under 26 years old. Even then, they have only combined for a total of 211 minutes of football. The majority of the squad are between 26 and 30 years old so should, theoretically, be at their peak but at the moment that isn't carrying over into results.

In typical Pulis fashion, there is a real workmanlike element to his squad with even the players in the more attacking positions not afraid to put a shift in and perhaps it's the lack of a real creative force in the team that is stopping the Baggies from picking up victories.

In 11 games this season West Brom have only managed to score nine goals with Jay Rodriguez being the only man to score more than one goal in the league. Defensively, they have been quite good with only 14 goals conceded. But when you consider how defensive they are, even that figure isn't all that impressive with teams who would be considered of a similar standard like Swansea, Newcastle, Brighton, Burnley and Huddersfield having better records.

Grzegorz Krychowiak has been West Brom's best player this season

It hasn't all been doom and gloom for West Brom this season with the form of Polish midfielder, Grzegorz Krychowiak being a real bright spark. The Pole has shown at Sevilla and Reims that he is a quality player but he disappointed at Paris St Germain last season. However, he looks to have recovered from that poor spell and is back to near his best in the Midlands.

At the moment West Brom are 16th in the Premier League, mostly thanks to that good start but Pulis will be aware that he needs to stop the rot soon. The fixtures don't look great for them over the next few weeks with Chelsea and Tottenham next up.

Realistically, that could be 12 games without a win but after that, they have two home games against Newcastle and Crystal Palace and if they can't end the disappointing run in those games, then the board may have to weigh up how much they want to keep Pulis against the prospect of relegation to the Championship.
