Stuttgart, Nov 24 Stuttgart head coach Armin Veh has stepped back with immediate effect, the club confirmed Monday.

Veh resigned a day after the 0-1 loss to Augsburg. The 'VfB' are stuck in a crisis as it sits at last position in the Bundesliga standings, earning only two wins from 12 games, reports Xinhua.

"This step is very difficult for me because I rate the club and team highly. But in the end I had to do so as I am convinced of the rightness of this step. The team is better than the position in the table represents but nine points from 12 games are just not enough. For that, I am responsible. We simply lacked the necessary luck on many close games," Veh said.

Stuttgart president Bernd Wahler said: "Armin Veh informed us last night about his decision. He is convinced that a change in the coach's position is necessary to get back on track. We respect his decision, even though we were convinced in his work despite yesterday's loss."

Stuttgart sit in 18th position with a three point gap to safety. The 'Swabians' encounter Freiburg at the opener of the 13th round of Bundesliga Friday.
