Suarez for Walcott - Liverpool offered Arsenal unbelievable striker swap deal

Liverpool's Luis Suarez celebrates his goal against Stoke City during their English Premier League soccer match at the Britannia stadium in Stoke-on-Trent

Liverpool reportedly made an offer to Arsenal to sell Luis Suarez to the North London club last summer, on the basis that they received Theo Walcott on top of £40 million, according to Goal.

Arsenal were very keen on recruiting the Uruguayan striker and famously bid marginally over the clause in his contract that suggested he could talk to other clubs.

Suarez was reportedly unhappy on Merseyside over the summer, having received a ten-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic coupled with Liverpool’s failure to qualify for Europe.

Liverpool dismissed Arsenal’s £40,000,001 million bid for the striker, but apparently offered the Gunners a deal that they would be willing to accept, with Theo Walcott thrown on top of that original offer.

Liverpool were valuing Walcott at around £25m making the deal at £65m, but Arsene Wenger rejected it, feeling the valuation was too high and didn’t want to lose Walcott to a Premier League rival.

The deal never came to fruition and Suarez has enjoyed a fantastic season upon returning from his suspension, netting 23 times so far to earn him a new bumper deal to stay at Anfield.

While there are assurances that he can depart if the wait for Champions League football continues, there is an agreement that any future moves do not happen between fellow English clubs, with Wenger declaring the deal dead in the water, with no intention of reviving talks between the clubs in the summer.
