Subroto Cup: Chandigarh school enter final

New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS) Government Model High School, Chandigarh, entered the Under-14 boys final of the 55th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament beating Bangladesh Kridha Siksha Pratisthan 4-2 on penalties at the Ambedkar Stadium here Sunday.

The Chandigarh school kept their nerves intact during the crucial penalty shoot-out after a barren 120 minutes of action to emerge 4-2 winners and will face Nagaland's Greenwood High School in the title round.

For the Chandigarh school, Sumit Rathi, Amarjit Singh, S. Sanjeev and Karan converted their chances while only Rashadul Islam and Borhanuddin scored from the spot for the Bangladesh team.

Earlier, in the Under-17 girls event, Haryana and Meghalaya schools set up a quarter-final clash, topping groups C and D, respectively.

Government Girls Senior Secondary School from Haryana thrashed IPSC Pinegrove School from Himachal Pradesh 14-0 with Renu (five), Pooja (four) and Mona (three) the leading goal-scorers.

Meghalaya High School beat Government Excellent Higher Secondary School from Madhya Pradesh 3-0. Aitihun Majaw netted a brace and Rimis Nongtdu completed the scoreline for the winning team.
