Subroto Cup: Pune thrash Bengaluru, Kolkata Derby ends in goalless draw

Boys from Bengaluru came up a cropper again

Pune FC got off their Subroto Cup campaign to a flying start as they beat Bengaluru FC 5-0 in their opening Group H encounter here at Delhi’s Ambedkar Stadium.

The academy side of the Red Lizzards began with a goal in the seventh minute through Bunthanglun and teammate Lalan added one soon to add to their lead. By the time they went in to the breather, they had gone 3-0 up through another strike from Kiran Sar. Post half-time, both Bunthanglun and Lalan completed their brace to seal the result.

In another match at the venue, Jharkhand inflicted a similar verdict over TAFS in Group E. Michael struck in the 16th & 35th minute and B. Lungdim and B. Meitei found the net in24th & 56th minute to go 3-0 up. Soon after it was the turn of Mollal to score in 69th minute and he did in style to score a brace, completely demoralizing their opponents from the capital.

The marquee match of the day however, between Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan ended in a drab goalless draw. While the first half was studded with chances, the teams resorted to a calmer, more docile approach after the breather to settle for the score.

Goa thrashed Lakshadweep at Ambedkar Stadium

In another match at New Willingdon Camp, boys from Goa thrashed Lakshadweep 4-0. Sadin Gaonkar found the net as early as in the second minute for Goa while Glevito Miranda consolidated in the 24th minute before Mark Baratto striking twice in 38th & 47th minute to put the issue beyond the youngsters from the Union Territory.

Chattishgarh beat Haryana

In another match in the same Group, Chhattisgarh’s St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School downed Haryana’s Delhi Public School (Panipat) 6-0. Chander P Kumar intiated the rout with a goal in the ninth minute and Ujeet Markam scored a hattrick to put the result beyond doubt. Also Anand Kumar and Pradeep Bhagat scored goals to take the tally of goals to half a dozen.

In comparison to what happened at NWC, the Group E league match between IPSC and Tripura Sports School (Agartala) was evenly matched. Aayush Steve put IPSC in lead in the 10th minute but they could not hold on to it as Akash from Tripura equalized just before the break.
