Sunil Chettri and Jeje to go on trial with Rangers FC

Jeje scored 13 goals in 15 matches for Indian Arrows last season

Indian strikers Sunil Chettri and Jeje Lalpekhlua will join Scottish giants Rangers FC on trial at the end of the month. Both the strikers will train at Rangers’ home ground, Murray Park in the hopes of securing a contract with the Scottish League Champions.

Chettri, 27 currently plays for Kolkatan Giants Mohun Bagan and has already bagged in 3 goals this season. He has an impressive scoring record of 24 goals in 52 matches for India at the international level. Chettri has already previously played for the MLS team, Kansas City Wizards.

Jeje, at 20, is one of India’s most promising young players. He is an fully fledged international, with an impressive scoring ration ( 5 goals in 8 matches). He currently plays at Pune FC.

Both players have a chance to impress, and they will be assessed during a trial period at Murray Park, as they will train with the first team.

Ali Russell, Rangers Chief Operating Officer, said: “Sunil and Jeje will be assessed at Murray Park next week and will have every chance to impress the management team.

“Both players have excelled in the I-League and now have the chance to train with Rangers.

“The club is attracting interest globally and there is now a huge appetite across the Atlantic following the recent signings of USA captain Carlos Bocanegra and rising star Alejandro Bedoya.“A Rangers delegation will visit India later this month to meet with key officials from the Indian Premier League.

“Sunil has been the top player in India for the last five years while Jeje has recently burst onto the scene and both players know a lot about British football as they worked with the national team’s English coach Bob Houghton.”
