Swansea signs a World Cup winning striker

Fernando Llorente previously player for Sevilla and Juventus

This transfer window has witnessed quite a few big names lining up to arrive in England this summer for the upcoming season. With all the extra money, the EPL clubs have left no stone unturned as they are all gearing up to add more and more players to fill up the voids and compete neck and neck to fight for the league.

The recent addition to the league comes from the Swansea management. Swansea Cty has completed a major transfer to strengthen their attacking option ahead of their upcoming English Premier League campaign 2016-17 by signing Fernando Llorente for an undisclosed fee from Sevilla, offering him a two-year deal.

Expressing their delight, the club confirmed the forward’s signing on their official Twitter account. Manager Francesco Guidolin was desperate to sign a potent striker after losing Bafetimbi Gomis to Marseille and Alberto Paloschi to Atlanta and he sees the Athletic Bilbao legend a worthy one. Though Llorente won the Europa League with Sevilla this year, his stay at Seville can hardly be termed a successful one.

Fernando Llorente started his career with Athletic Bilbao and left the club as a legend after netting a total of 118 goals in 333 appearances. In 2013, he sealed a move to Seria A giants Juventus and won 2 Seria A titles amidst scoring 27 times for the Bianconeris. He left the Turin side last year to join Sevilla and scored 7 goals in 24 matches in their 2015-16 campaign.

He rose to limelight with some sublime form while playing for Bilbao, and was even called up to the Spanish national team. He was part of Spain’s 2010 World Cup winning squad and even won the European championship with them in 2012. So far he has 7 goals to his name in 24 appearances for his country.

The 31-year-old striker was also reportedly wanted by Everton but Swansea has wrapped up the deal before their Premier League rivals. The Swans start off their EPL campaign with an away tie against newly promoted Burnley before they host another new comer Hull and then face the champions Leicester City.

However, the fans can have a glimpse of the world cup winner very soon; as Swansea City is due to play French side Stade Rennais in their pre-season friendly at the Liberty stadium tomorrow.
