TAL (Division 2): Gameweek 5 Review

Supernova go top of the table as FK FC remain winless

Gameweek 5 saw Supernova thrash FK FC to go top of the table on goal difference. Parikrma though picked up an all-important win against Athlos United FC to stay very much in the hunt. Elsewhere, FC Brunton and Diego FC overcame the challenges of Phoenix FC and Warriors FC respectively while Diablos FC beat Netbusters in the final game of the day.

FC Brunton 1 – 0 Phoenix FC

The match between FC Brunton and Phoenix FC kicked off Gameweek 5. Both teams were coming off defeats and were looking to take maximum points of this match. A tight game ensued with Samir Padival scoring the only goal of the match to give his side all three points.

This result means FC Brunton will hold onto 5th place till we resume proceedings after the mid-league break. They will, however, need to set a few things right to finish the season strongly. Phoenix though, are languishing in 9th place and will need to use the break as an opportunity to reorganize things.

Athlos United FC 0 – 2 Parikrma

The most awaited game of the day was in line next as two heavyweights, Athlos United FC and Parikrma battled it out. A tight game saw Parikrma break the deadlock in the final third of the game but scored again 5 minutes later to seal the win.

Athlos will be disappointed after having played well for most of the game and would feel a draw might have been a fair result. This result also throws their title challenge off track, but they can be expected to push for it till the end. Parikrma, have passed yet another litmus test in their pursuit of the coveted crown but fall to second in the table on goal difference.

Diego FC 2 – 0 Warriors FC

The third game of the day was the clash between Diego FC and Warriors FC, which promised to be an open and attacking game. Warriors will be aggrieved they lost this game in the last 5 minutes of play after having matched their opponents toe-to-toe throughout the game. Diego FC meanwhile, will be in a confident mood after two consecutive wins and their season is finally gathering momentum.

This win pushes them up to 6th, a vast improvement considering the state of affairs a couple of weeks ago. Warriors FC meanwhile have failed to build on their win against Phoenix and will need to find a way to do justice to the talent in their team.

Supernova FC 12 – 0 FK FC

FK FC took on top dogs Supernova FC in the penultimate game of the day. FK FC was looking to build on their performances from the past couple of games but met an unforgiving Supernova FC side, who nailed them into submission. A barrage of goals late in the game resulted in a 12-0 win for Supernova, adding to the woes of FK FC.

They will need a miracle after the mid-league break to even climb out of last place but with an easier schedule ahead they should pick up a couple of wins. Supernova, on the other hand, are flying high at the top of the table and will be hoping to be in the same position come the end of the season.

Netbusters 2 – 5 Diablos FC

The final game before the mid-league break was between Diablos FC and Netbusters. Gigen Dev, Netbusters’ most influential player was sent off, after an altercation with the referee. This incident came after he pulled back a goal to reduce the deficit his team’s deficit to 1.

Diablos found themselves in trouble at the back on quite a few occasions but eventually their attack overpowered the opposition with the numbers advantage coming in handy. While Diablos are close on the heels of the table toppers, Netbusters drop down to 7th going into the break.
