Thai FA plan to prevent match-fixing in football with the help of religion

Is religion the ultimate solution to prevent match fixing?

The Thai Football Association have sent their referees to swear an oath to the holy Emerald Buddha in order to prevent match-fixings and bribery from football.

Yes, you read it right. As reported by the Guardian, the members of the FA have switched to religion as a mean to stop corruption within the game, forcing more than 100 referees to take an oath before the Emerald Buddha situated in Bangkok that they would officiate in matches without any bias towards any team.

Apparently, the FA members have failed miserably with their lie-detecting tests earlier as a mean to stop match-fixing, and religion could be a game-changer, at least that is what they think.

“We have performed, and will perform our duty with honesty,” the match officials were quoted by the Bangkok Post.

Swearing before the Emerald Buddha to prove their honesty has been a tradition that have been followed by people in Thailand, and coach of Thai Premier League side Singhtarua Dusit Chalermsan believes the same. He said, “I hope Thai football will become better after they took oath before the Emerald Buddha.”
