The Amateur League: Horizons FC score 7 goals to go top of Division 1 table

TAL

Gameweek 3 of TAL (Season 2) kicked off under overcast conditions that later turned into a slight rain. Typical Bangalore weather was on display as the teams got a relief from the blistering heat.

Yataghan Bangalore FC 0-2 Saints FC

The first match of the day featured Yataghan BFC and Saints FC with the latter coming out on top and thereby maintaining their unbeaten record. Saints were missing some of their best players but a flat performance by Yataghan made it an easy outing for Saints. A brace from striker Vikas Vasan ensured another 3 points lost for Yataghan who must really be kicking themselves for putting in such a nonchalant performance that sees them drop down the table.

Mercurial FC 1-3 FC Kougen Kikou

FC Kougen Kikou came out on top against basement dwellers Mercurial FC in an inspired performance by the Japanese. Their overall game was solid as defence connected well with attack exhibiting fluidity in their game that was missing last season. Nyuumara, Akiyama and Kiyone allscored as FCKK opened their scoring charts for the season. Mercurial found it hard to keep up with the pace and stamina of FCKK and will be wondering if they need to make new signings to strengthen their squad to stay in Division 1 next season. Solomon Alva scored the solitary goal for Mercurial FC.

Samba FC 3-0 Mavericks FC

In what turned out to be the upset of the day, Samba FC put in an impressive performance to thrash Mavericks FC. Usually known for their defensive stoutness, Samba’s attack clicked well in this game to give them their first win of the season. Umesh contributed with a brace and Padma Kumar opened his tally as both forwards got on the scoresheet. Mavericks, on the other hand, could not get their passing game going and struggled to exert any meaningful control over the entire course of the match.

Indian Ocean 0-7 Horizons FC

Defending champions Horizons put on another show as Indian Ocean were outclassed in a 7-0 drubbing. Seven different goalscorers got on the score sheet for Horizons (Saarang G. 10’; RavinderSingh 16’; Raghu M. 26’; Sushruth G. 28’; Adithya KV 43’; Mamang D. 51’; Rohan Menon 60’) as they showed the versatility of their players who seamlessly fit into different positions throughout the game.

This victory has taken them to the top of the table as they now lead Saints on goal difference. The Indian Ocean players were all over the place in this game and will be looking at good additions to the team as well as tactical changes for the coming game-weeks.

Flipkart FC 0-1 Gremio FC

Third placed Gremio FC took on fourth placed Flipkart FC in what was a battle to keep pace with the top two. Gremio FC came out on a top in a closely contested game after centre back Satish Kumar managed to find his way into the box to score the winner.

Gremio have managed to keep pace with Saints and Horizons so far but will have to score more freely if they are to minimize the goal difference that currently separates the top teams. Flipkart’s defence held firm for most of the game as they managed to keep Vignesh under the radar but missing the pace of PavanPowar in attack seems to have hurt their chances of getting a point out of this game.

Rare Dare FC 1-3 Project 7

Rahul Singh scored Season 2’s second hat-trick in the final game of the day to lead Project 7 to their first victory in TAL. The forward was outstanding as he proved to be a constant menace for the RDFC defence with his positioning and pace. Along with him, Project 7’s goalkeeper, 14-year old Marvin put in a stellar performance in goal as he kept Project 7 in the lead by pulling off some stunning saves when RDFC were threatening a comeback.

RDFC, on the other hand, made some personnel and tactical changes, which worked both ways for them. Their attack looked better with captain Winston Miranda but not having Himatthe back seemingly led them to lose the defensive organization we had seen in earlier games. Don Bosco scored the only goal for RDFC.
