Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara feels Luis Suarez deserved Ballon D'Or nomination ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo

Suarez currently leads the La Liga top scorers list for this season with 15 goals

Bayern Munich and former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara believes that Luis Suarez should have been nominated alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar instead of Cristiano Ronaldo, for the 2015 Ballon D’Or award. The trio had a fantastic year with the Catalans and scored 139 goals in the calendar year, also helping Barcelona to a record second European treble.

The Blaugrana, after adding the Club World Cup to their name, are on course for their 24th league title this season. Suarez leads the goal-scoring charts in the league this season ahead of Ronaldo with 15 goals so far and is set to have another successful season after signing for the club in July 2014 for a whopping £75m from Liverpool. Since then, the Uruguayan has scored 51 goals in 65 games for the Catalan giants.

MSN are on their way to being the best trio ever: Thiago

Thiago, a former Barcelona player who had played with Messi at the Nou Camp, said that the trio should have been in the running for the coveted award. "Right now, all three of them are deserving of being in the running for the Ballon d'Or," he said. "They're a fabulous trio, just like the tridents made up of Xavi, Leo and [Andres] Iniesta, or Messi, [Samuel] Eto'o and [Thierry] Henry were.”

“It's only at the end of your career when you can look back and assess things. They're well on track to become one of the best attacking trios in the history of the game."

Thiago happy with life at Bayern

Thiago made a switch to Bayern in 2013 after Pep Guardiola lured him away from the Spanish giants. The Spaniard has had a bad spell of injuries ever since he joined the Bavarians and has spent more than 450 days in the sidelines, missing almost 90 matches during that period. However, the 24-year-old has admitted that he is happy at Bayern but refused to rule out a move back to the Nou Camp if Barca comes calling.

"At present, I feel really good where I am," he said. "Further down the line, we'll have to see what happens. I enjoy being where I am now, and I want to lift silverware with Bayern."

Thiago has won two Bundesliga titles with Bayern, a DFB Pokal, UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup win in 2013 to go with it.
