The city of Kochi and Chennai were left enraptured last Sunday. Queen Park Rangers, which is run by Tony Fernandes which is also now an relegated English side, are looking at an opportunity of owning and operating an I-League club and are in the process of considering Kochi or Chennai as their base.

The AIFF (All India Football Federation) had informed Goal.com that QPR is keen on buying a franchise in the I-League next season.

Impressed by the facilities at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Kochi on Sunday, he expressed great satisfaction and his willingness to buy the franchise. He had also visited Chennai previously, but mentioned that having seen the Kochi stadium, it is also under consideration for the same.

“At first Kochi was not in our plans but after arriving here and seeing the facilities and enthusiasm of the fans, we have started considering Kochi seriously,” Fernandes was quoted saying in The Times of India.

He also said that any final decision would be taken along with his team of consultants.
