Arsenal unveils new signing Shkodran Mustafi

It’s 31st August, which means it is the last day for all transfer activity across all of Europe – Deadline Day! The window shuts at different times in different leagues, and we have compiled the information needed for you to know how the business works and which transactions could make hot news in an already frenetic transfer window.

To keep on a track in what promises to be a busy deadline day, our live transfer blog will keep you updated on all the transfer news.

Football fans will be on their toes, anxiously awaiting reports and results on the loans of Jack Wilshere and Joe Hart, and on the permanent deals of Marcos Alonso, Shkodran Mustafi, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Isco, James Rodriguez, Moussa Sissoko, David Luiz and many other players who could move in this summer transfer window.

When is the transfer deadline?

The transfer deadline shuts at 11pm in England and midnight in Scotland. France shares the same deadline as the English. The window in Germany closes at 5pm, at 11pm in Spain, while in Italy transfers cannot go through after 10pm.

This essentially means the deadline timings to follow in Indian Standard Time for all the Indian football enthusiasts will be 8.30pm for the Bundesliga on the 31st August, 1.30am for the Serie A, 2.30 am for the La Liga, 3.30am for the Premier League and Ligue 1 and 4.30am for the Scottish Premier League in the early hours of 1st September.

Transactions between clubs of different leagues

All deals including loan moves must be completed within this time frame allocated to clubs by the leagues. However, with different deadlines for different leagues, clubs looking to finalise deals with leagues with an early deadline, can only buy players from that league and can’t sell to leagues where the window is already closed.

For example, players from the Premier League or Scotland will not be able to complete their moves to clubs from the Bundesliga once the German window is shut. Although, the converse of such deals is still possible as players from the Bundesliga can still complete their move to the Premier League or the Serie A.

Loan deals also share the same deadlines.

Stay tuned to our live transfer blog and be updated on all the happenings from Europe.

Will this be a record-breaking deadline day?

For the first time in the history of transfer window last season, the spending in a single season crossed £1 billion. The record spending by Premier League clubs this season surpassed last year’s record of £870m.

With Marcos Alonso, Wilfried Bony and other deals likely to be announced, the spending is set to soar to a greater number.
