Transfer News: Arsenal Keen On Signing Sunderland Wonder-Kid

Arsenal is interested in signing Sunderland wonderkid Joel Asoro and has sent scouts to watch the player. According to the reports from Swedish outlet Expressen, the Gunners are monitoring the youngster’s progress very closely and are keen on bringing him to the Emirates.

Reports suggest that Arsenal scout Bobby Bennett was present during Sweden’s U-21 match against Spain where the 17-year-old midfielder made his debut. Arsenal may face competition as the report says that Newcastle chief scout Graham Carr too has been watching Asoro.

Arsenal has always been keen on developing young talent and has one of the most reputable youth academies in the country. The Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is known to have a penchant for developing young players rather than buying big.

The Swedish press claims that there are a host of clubs having an eye on the youngster, among which Arsenal and Newcastle United’s names figure. Both the clubs will have to battle it out against one another for Asoro’s signature.

However, it is highly unlikely that Sunderland will be willing to let go of the youngster. The Black Cats can be expected to slap a huge price tag on the player who signed with the club in 2015 and joined the squad in 2016.

Asoro joined Sunderland from Swedish side IF Bromma. The 17-year-old midfielder had been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Everton, Manchester City, Chelsea and Juventus before he eventually signed for Sunderland.

The youngster made his first-team debut for the Black Cats in 21st August 2016 during the match against Middlesbrough. He came on as an 81st minute substitute for Duncan Watmore. The youngster went on to make his first start at the club under manager David Moyes on 24st August against Shrewsbury Town during the EFL Cup second round tie.

Asoro has been praised for his excellent form during Sunderland’s tour of France. The youngest player in Moyes’ squad and did not disappoint the viewers.

The 17-year old midfielder has impressed with his quick feet, pace and excellent composure. Asoro scored his first senior goal for Sunderland against Dijon during their pre-season tour. Considered to be one Europe’s top talents, Asoro is one to be looked out for in the future.

The youngster has 12 goals to his credit in 17 appearances for Sweden’s U-17 national team during the 2015-2016 campaign.
