Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will not be playing together.

Football fans will just have to keep waiting for the chance to watch Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo play alongside each other as UEFA have denied any such plans of hosting an All-Star match.

It was earlier reported by Spanish agency Mundo Deportivo that UEFA were considering the prospect of hosting an annual fixture with the best of players in all of Europe with Ronaldo and Messi playing in the same team – Team South.

Team South was said to consist of players from Spain's La Liga, Italia's Serie A and France's Ligue 1, and would play against Team North comprising footballers from the English Premier League, German Bundesliga and the Russian Premier League.

However, while speaking to Goal.com, UEFA officials have denied of holding any such event, stating, "This topic is not being discussed by UEFA and there are currently no such plans.”
