UEFA short-list 10 players for Best player in Europe award for 2013-14 season

Franck Ribery was the previous winner of the Best Player in Europe Award

UEFA have announced a list of 10 players who will contest for the 'Best Player in Europe' award for the 2013-14 season.

A total of 35 players had initially made the list from the first round of votes and 10 best players in terms of votes accrued made it to the next voting round.

Amongst the top 10, astonishingly, only 2 players from the 'La Decima' winning Real Madrid squad have made it to the list - Angel di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The line-up is however dominated by Bayern Munich players as 4 of them - Philip Lahm, Manuel Neuer, Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller have progressed to the second round. Whilst Lionel Messi remains a regular name, Colombian star striker James Rodriguez is a surprise entry.

Barcelona's marquee signing, Luis Suarez has also made the cut, after his dazzling performances with Liverpool last season. The 3 finalists who will compete in the final voting round will be decided at the end of the second stage and the nominees will be announced on 14th August.

The award will be presented on 28th August in Monaco, during the 2014-15 Champions League group stage draw.
