Valencia’s variant of their logo resembles the Batman logo by DC Comics

La Liga club Valencia has a logo that’s all too familiar now with football fans; the bat. And now DC Comics is suing the club for copying the logo of one of their superheroes – Batman.

Arguably one of the world’s favourite comic book and movie character, Batman has become a legend ever since its first comic came out 70 years ago. And after the recent trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan his popularity has gone sky high.

And now its creators DC Comics are legally pursuing the matter, claiming that the new bat logo is a rip off of the iconic character. They have apparently filed a complaint with the OHIC (European Union's trademark registration body) and want Valencia to change it.

Valencia have always had a bat in their club emblem since 1919 – even before the first Batman comic was published. And the bat is a symbol that has been used in by Spanish emblems for over 800 years.

Los Che may not be considered Dark Knights, but they surely are the dark horses as they sit third in the Liga title race – three points behind league leaders Real Madrid.
