Valencia’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona was an occasion of joy as well as sadness for the club’s fans. Although they managed a draw against arguably the most lethal team in Europe, they lost one of their own to a heart attack.

The Valencia fan suffered the attack shortly after Santi Mina scored the equalizer goal and was quickly tended to by Red Cross medics. they performed a cardiac massage on the stricken fan before moving him to a hospital, where he sadly passed away at around midnight.

Valencia released a statement on their website expressing their condolences. “Valencia CF regrets the irreparable loss of a fan after the match at the Mestalla. The club puts all its resources at the disposal of the family and shares the grief of all their loved ones.

Barcelona dominated most of the match and took the lead through a Luis Suarez goal in the 44th minute. But they wasted plenty of chances later on and eventually allowed Valencia to grab an equalizer through teenager Mina, who earned his team a point in the game’s closing stages.

Newly appointed Valencia head coach Gary Neville was watching the action from the stands and will surely have spotted areas his team can improve on when he takes charge for the next game.
