Chelsea’s chances of offloading misfiring striker Fernando Torres were dealt a blow when it was revealed that La Liga side Valencia have rejected the opportunity to sign the Spanish forward.

Duncan Castles reported that despite making the Spain squad, Valencia do not view Torres as a value for money signing, as the Spanish club look to revive their fortunes following the takeover by Peter Lim.

The Singaporean billionaire bought Valencia last season and has already said that the aim is get the club back into the Champions League for the 2015-16 season. Valencia were finalists in the competition in 2000 and 2001 whilst the club were La Liga champions in 2002 and 2004.

However recently the club has not endured such successful times with financial problems off the pitch forcing the sale of some of their star players including Juan Mata, David Silva, David Villa, Jordi Alba and Roberto Soldado. Last season in La Liga they eighth, an incredible 41 points behind champions Atletico Madrid.

A source inside the club said ”Valencia will have a great team, they don’t need retired people,” when asked about the possibility of bringing Torres to Spain.

Torres has not enjoyed a happy time at Stamford Bridge since his £50 million move despite winning the Champions League and the Europa League. The club now seem prepared to cut their losses on the player, in order to get him off the wage bill.

In 110 Premier League games for Chelsea Fernando Torres has scored just 20 goals.
