Van Persie's presence could prove vital in Rooney's absence

With Wayne Rooney presently under medical attention after the freak injury he picked up in the last game, United seem to have difficult times ahead without their talisman. Rooney has been the spearhead of United’s attack for quite a while now. He has scored 97 goals in the 156 matches he has played for United in all competitions throughout the last three seasons. His absence would be sorely regretted now, with United attempting to regain the League title from its noisy neighbors, and Chelsea looking rampant in their first 3 games.

Meanwhile, Sir Alex has pulled out a transfer coup this summer, in signing Robin Van Persie from Arsenal. Van Persie has made an impactful home debut for United, with his world-class finish to demonstrate why he is worth his pay grade. With Wayne Rooney being out for 4 weeks and crucial fixtures against Liverpool and Spurs coming up in the interim, Robin van Persie could be the key to United’s success. Leading an attack is something which is not new for RVP. He has been doing so, since the Henry’s departure at Arsenal.

If not for the transfer of RVP to Old Trafford, United’s attack would now be in the hands of the inexperienced duo of Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez. Although talented, the aforementioned duo is would have problems scoring against stronger defenses, which could have made a negative impact for United’s title race.

Now with Robin van Persie leading the attack and the duo of Kagawa and Cleverley looking good in the middle, United should make it through this phase, unless there is another major setback.
