Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez suffered what the club describes as “traumatic brain injury” during a pre-season friendly against German club Wolfsburg.

It was in the 21st minute that the 27-year-old midfielder went up to for a header and collided with the hip-bone of team-mate Cristian Ansaldi, who was himself challenging opposition striker Ivica Olic.

It was later announced that the Spaniard has undergone a CT scan and won’t return with the squad immediately.

The end news was a positive one as the player regained consciousness and even sent a message across that he was fine and thanked everyone for their wishes

Suarez played a stellar role last season during the club’s run to the Champions League final and the La Liga title.

The Madrid club eventually won the match 5-1 which included new signing Mario Mandzukic’s first goal.
