Video: Bayern Munich's 'Bucket Ball' training routine is bizarre but brilliant

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola surely knows how to get the best out of his players – be it on the pitch or at the training ground.

In this training session, the Bayern squad can be seen playing Bucket Ball. We see groups of six players in each team – three each at either end of the ground.

Here are the rules.

  1. First a player lobs the ball to the other end.
  2. The three players make sure the ball doesn’t touch the ground while slowly bringing it forward and putting it into a bucket. They can only use their head, chest and feet – normal football rules.
  3. The first three players do a slalom run through posts on the field to get to the other end.
  4. Repeat the process again until all players have lobbed the ball at least once.

The trickiest part is putting the ball into the bucket without letting it touch the ground. This is where their teamwork and ‘keepy-ups’ skills are put to the ultimate test.
