Video: Chelsea defeat Barcelona 2-2 (4-2 on penalties) in International Champions Cup

Eden Hazard finishes past Ter Stegen in goal after his brilliant run

In what was the most entertaining match so far in the International Champions Cup, Chelsea defeated Champions League holders Barcelona 4-2 on penalties after the match ended tied 2-2 after normal time. This was the Blues’ second penalty shootout victory, following their similar triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in their previous match.

The match started at great pace and the team from South London took the lead in the 10th minutes, thanks to a slaloming run by Eden Hazard, who bamboozled the entire Barcelona defence, dribbled past four players and then finished with calm beyond Marc-Andre ter Stegen in goal.

It took the Spaniards some time to level the scores, but they got back into the game thanks to Luis Suarez’s beautiful chip, despite the valiant attempt by Kurt Zouma to clear the ball off the line. The Catalans then took the lead through Sandro Ramirez, whose lovely curling effort nestled in the top corner, giving Thibaut Courtois in the Chelsea goal no chance.

Chelsea leveled the game as Gary Cahill’s brave header went in, making the score 2-2. Penalties were needed to separate the two teams, and the Premier League champions came up trumps in the shootout.

All four of their penalties were converted, with Falcao, Loic Remy, Ramires and Victor Moses the scorers, while Barcelona could only score two, thanks to Andres Iniesta and Sandro, as efforts from Halilovic and Gerard Pique hit the crossbar and were saved by Courtois, respectively.
