Video: The first ever recorded match of Manchester United on video

Burnley v Manchester United
A still from the match.

Manchester United’s century-old match against Burnley is perhaps the first recorded match with the Red Devils in action. The match was played on the 6th of December, 1902, and United won the away tie with a 2-0 scoreline with a goal from Dick Pegg and an own goal scored by a Burnley player.

A second-division team back then, they were first promoted to the first Division in the 1906-07 season, a division that now is known as the English Premier League with Manchester United with the highest number of titles.

This film is part of the Mitchell and Kenyon collection - an amazing visual record of everyday life in Britain at the beginning of the twentieth century.
