Video: Kaka receives first straight red card of career for stomping on opponent

Kaka was sent-off for this offense on Javier Morales

Brazilian superstar and former AC Milan talisman Ricardo Kaka received the first straight red card of his career last night. He was sent off for stomping on an opponent as Orlando City drew 1-1 with Real Salt Lake in their Major League Soccer encounter.

Kaka was deemed to have pushed Javier Morales of Real Salt Lake on the stroke of half-time, and then as Morales was lying on the ground, stepped on him before getting off. To his credit, it does not like the Brazilian had any malicious intent, and it looked more like he lost his balance, stumbled, stomped on his opponent by mistake, before moving off of him. However, given that he didn't protest the decision, he might not have been so innocent after all.

Earlier in the match, the Orlando City star had given his team the lead in the 5^th minute, before getting sent-off. The draw meant that Orlando, who have been doing great in the MLS Eastern Conference, had to settle for a draw, now have 24 points, level with New England Revolution and Columbus Crew, but still way off the pace set by leaders DC United, who have 35 points.

This was the 3^rd red card of Kaka’s career and the first instance when he was shown a straight red. He had earlier been sent-off while playing for Brazil against Ivory Coast at the 2010 World Cup and while he was a Real Madrid player against Getafe in 2013.
