The MLS may not be the most followed football league in the world, but the rivalry between two of its popular teams seems to have reached a point where they have taken their battles off the field as well. Los Angeles Galaxy take on New York City FC on Sunday and the LA-based team have already added fuel to the fire in this video.

New York City FC had recently signed midfield legends like Italy’s Andrea Pirlo and England’s Frank Lampard this summer who joined Spanish striker David Villa in the squad. They will now come up against the likes of Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard and Giovani Dos Santos when the two teams face off this weekend.

NYCFC’s three Designated Players (DPs) – Villa, Pirlo and Lampard – had recently taken part in a photoshoot that saw them wearing just a vest and a pair of shorts as they posed on stools with glistening skin, deliberately moistened for the shoot. If anyone bought the New York Magazine, they would have seen the picture as a photo spread.

Now, both Pirlo and Lampard were made fun of when NYCFC played the New York Red Bulls. A huge banner was unfurled at the game which showed the two midfielders, aged 36 and 37 respectively, looking old and holding walking sticks. LA Galaxy then took it a bit further by showing “behind the scenes footage” of their own photoshoot.

As Dan Gargan explains in the video, he and his teammates – Alan Gordon and Ignacio Maganto – go on to get ready for the shoot, making sure they look good before choosing their attire and then sitting on the stools for the photo shoot. They even make sure their skin glistens as it does for the three New York City players.

It is expected to be a cracker of a game and probably the most high-profile contest this season.
