Video: Neymar involved in heated altercation with Manchester City fan at Etihad stadium

Neymar was involved in an altercation with a Manchester City fan

Barcelona star Neymar was caught on video having an altercation with a Manchester City fan just around the full-time whistle of the Champions League clash at the Etihad Stadium. The Brazilian was involved in Barcelona’s 2-1 win over City in the first leg of the round-of-16 match.

Neymar was substituted in the 80th minute and the video shows the Brazilian apparently arguing with a spectator sitting the in away section of City's support next to the visiting dugout.

The argument seemed particularly heated with one particular City fan wearing a Yaya Toure jersey. The fan in the video appeared to gesture to the 23-year-old that he had been diving during the game.

Matters seemed to have cooled off before Neymar decided to pursue the matter with the fan after the match ended. The stewards had to intervene to diffuse the situation.

Neymar tried to play down the incident when asked about the altercation in a post-match interview. He told the Brazilian media, “I was just playing with him. He began to curse me and I ended up mocking him.”

The striker however refused to get into the details of the altercation, but hinted that the fan swore at him. He said, “What he told me? I cannot repeat it, no. My mother gave me an education. What his mother did not tell him, my mother taught me.”

It is to be seen if City want to report the incident to UEFA, which might see Neymar face disciplinary action.
