How does one score a goal now? OGC Nice reserves field an unconventional tactic to stop free-kick

Unconventional but effective way to stop a freekick
×Proofread

In a match between Olympique Gymnaste Club Nice reserves and Grenoble, a unique type of defensive strategy was used during a free kick.

Grenoble won the free kick outside the goal area and as per the long-established tradition it would have been their best free kicker taker to hit the dead ball over the wall formed by the opposition or curl the ball around it.

However, the French club Nice had other tactics in store for Grenoble to tackle the free kick. Nice manager surprised his opposition by fielding an unconventional and innovative defence with the defenders on the goal line and the goalkeeper ahead of them to stop the kick.

The free kick was taken, but the ball was headed off by the defender on the goal line, behind the goalkeeper.
