It’s ironical that despite wrapping up the Bundesliga title as early as matchday 30, Bayern Munich now find themselves eliminated from the DFB Pokal, that is the German League Cup. Pep Guardiola and his men were up against Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund, and perhaps it can be said that the players in Yellow and Black were motivated, knowing this was the last time Klopp was leading them against Bayern.

It was former Dortmund player Roberto Lewandowski who scored the first goal in the match, giving Bayern the lead in the first half. However, with less than 20 minutes to go until full time, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised for his side, taking the match to a penalty shoot-out after the extra time period ended in a draw.

List of penalty takers:

Bayern Munich: Lahm, Alonso, Götze, Neuer.

Borussia Dortmund: Gündogan, Kehl, Hummels.

All four of Bayern’s penalty taker missed, including goalkeeper Manuel Neuer who had managed to only keep out Mats Hummel’s strike from the spot with ?lkay Gündo?an and Sebastian Kehl converting their penalties successfully.

Arminia Bielefeld and Wolfsburg will be playing the second semi-final on Wednesday, and the winner will face Dortmund in the final in Berlin.
