Everyone who watched the friendly match between England and Portugal at Wembley last week will remember the biggest highlight from the night. The Three Lions may have won 1-0 thanks to a Chris Smalling goal but what is etched in every person’s mind is the horrific image of Portugal defender Bruno Alves almost beheading England striker Harry Kane with an illegal “tackle”.

Alves was immediately sent off after the referee brandished a red card. Twitter also had a lot to say about the challenge that was roundly criticised by one and all. Kane, lucky to avoid any serious injury a week before Euro 2016, was also thankful after the game, saying: “I think I got away with one there. Another day I could’ve had a few stitches in the head.”

Portuguese liquor brand Licor Beirão took it upon themselves to apologise to the Tottenham Hotspur striker. But why them? Because that lasting image has their advertisement in the background.

The video shows how they sent the Premier League Golden Boot winner a bottle of their finest liqueur along with an apology card with a message to Kane. After introducing themselves and apologising, they mention how they wanted to leave him with a “different taste of Portugal – one with a much softer kick” that wouldn’t give him a “nasty headache”.
