Video: Red Bull Salzburg show off smart corner routine

Austrian Champions Salzburg and Swedish Champions Malmö faced off in the third round UCL qualifier

Andreas Ulmer scored a remarkable goal for Red Bull Salzburg during their 2-0 win over Malmö FF in the first leg of the third round of the UEFA Champions League qualifier. The Austrian’s strike was the culmination of a lovely passing move from the corner flag, and came about after Malmö had a 15th minute effort cancelled for offside.

In the 51st minute, a quick corner routine was started by the Salzburg players. After three quick passes the ball found its way to Andreas Ulmer, allowing the onrushing defender to unleash an unstoppable shot from 25 yards out to give the home side the lead.

Malmö continued to press and force an equaliser in a tense affair at the Red Bull Arena, but their efforts were in vain as Martin Hinteregger’s 89th minue penalty clinched the result for the Austrian Bundesliga champions.

The win in the first leg has left Red Bull Salzburg with a great chance of reaching the group stages of the UEFA Champions League, after the club failed to qualify for Europe’s premier competition in their seven attempts since 2005.
