Watch Neymar's terrible baseball audition with the New York Mets

Neymar Mets Brazil Barcelona Baseball Fail

Barcelona star striker Neymar has shown that he should stick to football while visiting the New York Mets in the USA. The Brazilian star had some downtime before the Rio Olympics and took the chance to attend his first sporting event in the United States of America, before which he had a spell of practice in the batting cages of the Mets.

Neymar attended the game between the New York Mets and the Chicago White Sox at Citi Field on Tuesday but chose to take the chance to wield his baseball skills. Predictably, Neymar was awful in the batting cages, being unable to strike at the mildest of pitches from Met’s batting coach, Kevin Long.

‘It was very difficult for me’, said the Brazilian later, although he did begin to get the hang of things later:

When asked who his favourite baseball team was, Neymar didn’t have much of an answer, stating that he was still learning about baseball: “I’m starting to get to know it right now. I’m really enjoying the experience.”

The Brazilian star had the last laugh, however, as he then proceeded to laugh off his lacklustre baseball skills and then dazzle the gathered America press with his footballing skills. The Americans watched in awe as the Barcelona star juggled a baseball, of all things, with his foot:

Brazil’s iconic #10 shirt has been worn by Neymar ever since he came to the fore with the national team, and the Barcelona star took to the grass of Citi Field with the #10 jersey of the Mets as well. However, with Neymar being dropped from the Copa America side with the Olympics taking preference, the Barcelona star seems to be making the best of his break.

Not that Barcelona coach Luis Enrique will mind, though, as he will probably be more concerned with getting Neymar to sign a contract extension with Barcelona, as the Brazilian is rumoured to be fielding multiple big-money offers, such as those from rivals Real Madrid.
