Netherlands and Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder has admitted that he would find it difficult to turn down advances from Louis van Gaal at Manchester United as ‘nobody from the Netherlands can reject’ him.

Sneijder, 30, was a key player in attack for the Netherlands in their 5-1 drubbing of Spain on Friday night as Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben ran riot on the Spanish goal.

He has forever been linked with a move to Manchester United, and was apparently very close to a move to Old Trafford last summer, but he remains in Turkey with Galatasaray, where he claims he is happy.

However, should an offer arrive from Van Gaal offering a transfer to Man United, Sneijder has admitted that he would have to consider it because as a Dutchman, you can’t turn down Van Gaal.

The new Man Utd boss is currently in charge of the Netherlands national side and will take charge of United following the completion of the World Cup, and a move maybe on the cards judging from Sneijder’s comments.

“In the Netherlands, Van Gaal is something like the headteacher of a school,” he said.

“Not everyone is lucky enough to get into his good books.

“He trains his players very hard and always expects the highest standards.

“I am happy at Galatasaray, I have established myself at the club and have settled in.

“However, if Van Gaal were to make me an offer, I would have to at least consider it. Nobody from the Netherlands can simply reject Van Gaal.”
