“You will miss me when I am gone,” said Rafa Benitez as he delivered a parting shot at the Chelsea hate mob implying that the section of Chelsea fans against him from the start may now finally appreciate what he did for their club.

The Spaniard, after helping Chelsea secure a Champions League place and leading them to glory in the Europa League, is now all set to take charge of his final game as the Blues’ interim boss on the club’s two-game post-season tour of the US with Manchester City.

Benitez, who is tipped to be succeeded by Jose Mourinho, also said that he has made the squad a better group for the next manager to inherit.

While Benitez is obviously upset at the idea of parting with the group of players he has been working with, he is nonetheless elated at how much progress the team has made so far.

“If you have a group of players who you’ve been working with for a while, and they were doing so well, it’s sad to leave them, he said.” But with the situation I’m really pleased for them. They’ve grown and they will be much better next season.

Benitez is expected to be named as Napoli’s new coach but refused to confirm whether he had accepted the position.
