GTA Online list of banned words includes Sony, Xbox and Rockstar

You can’t mention Xbox One and PlayStation on GTA Online

Every online game has a list of banned words that you cannot mention in-game. While most of these are simply expletives, Rockstar seems to have taken it a step further by including company and console names in their list of banned words for GTA Online.

Redditor DamonPei has managed to compile a full list of banned words on GTA Online, and it is hilarious just how far Rockstar has gone. Users are not allowed to mention these words in the GTA’s in-game text messaging system for whatever reason. While most of the list is, unsurprisingly, comprised of foul language, some of these words are not profanities, but rather company names.

The list includes console manufacturers Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft as well as words like Rockstar, Rstar, and Rockstardev. Console names like Xbox and PlayStation are also banned, though for some reason the Wii is not included in the banned list. A few other words banned on GTA Online are Demonoid, Piratebay, and other piracy related sites and terms, probably to prevent players from talking about piracy related topics.

It is hard to understand why Rockstar has added these words to their banned list, but then again, it is quite ironic how a game known for its profanity and sexual content has a banned word list to begin with. Many of these profanities are mentioned throughout the GTA V campaign or can be heard while playing, so banning players from saying it doesn’t really make sense.

Also, GTA V has a ‘Mature’ rating, which means players under a certain age are not allowed to play the game. So, “profanities” like the ones the developers have banned are not going to faze them. However, I guess the ban on these words is Rockstar’s way of protecting players from possible online harassment. Either way, you can check out the full list of banned words here.

GTA V is available now for the PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4.
