WWE Immortals will feature female vs male matches

Wrestlers featured in WWE Immortals

NetherRealm’s Studios upcoming WWE Immortals for mobile will not feature gender segregated matches. So male wrestlers will now have the option to take on female wrestlers and vice versa. While this seems pretty common with other fighting game titles like Tekken, this is still a new idea for a WWE game.

Intergender fights were removed from the WWE series a few years back to make it more in tone with its PG rating. This rule was eventually brought over to the WWE video game franchise which removed the ability to stage matches between females and males. And while the game still featured mixed tag-matches, male players would be immediately disqualified if they touched a female. So players could no longer take on female wrestlers.

But it looks like WWE Immortals will be doing away with this aspect of the game. A recently uploaded gameplay video reveals the Bella Twins taking on wrestler Sheamus with some pretty awesome moves.

The change does seem pretty trivial and the fantasy element of the game could be a major reason why WWE allowed female vs male matches. The game is being developed by Mortal Kombat creators NetherRealm Studios and features WWE wrestlers as re-imagined fantasy characters with powers. WWE Immortals is slated to release on January 15th for the iOS and Android. You can check out the latest gameplay video below:
