Edwin Van Der Sar will turn 40 this October

Chelsea are in trouble because their ever so dependable goal-stopper Peter Cech is out with an injury and may miss the initial part of the season.

Chelsea however cannot afford a weak start in the premiership where they will have competitions from more quarters than ever before. With Manchester United looking deadly with the strike force of Javier Hernandez added to the talismanic Rooney, they are likely to be favorites. Arsenal have guarded their players well in the transfer season and their trio of Robin Van Persie , Arshavin and Fabregas will pose threat to the best of defenses.

Arsenal too are on the lookout for a quality keeper after they were disappointed with the services of Manuel Almunia and Fabianski. If his performance in the Community Shield is anything to go by, he can play a couple of more season. But Manchester United need a replacement as age will bring along vulnerability.

Liverpool start as the weakest of the big four and have to prove themselves again this season with Roy Hodgson at the helm. Liverpool will have fierce competition from clus like Tottenham, Manchester City, Everton and Aston Villa. It will be interesting to see if we have a different big four by next season.

Liverpool are lucky to have quality guarding the goal-posts with Pepe Reina. Reina has however become a subject of interest in the transfer circles.
