Incheon (South Korea), Sep 19 (IANS) A fusillade of fireworks marked the start of the opening ceremony of the 17th Asian Games at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium here Friday. Fireworks lit up the sky here after a glittering sound and light show enthralled the packed stadium.

Schoolchildren from South Korea holding rings started first act of the evening, followed by a visual narrative on the creation of the universe.

A ship sailed through the stadium telling the story of how the continent of Asia was created, then separated with a well choreographed routine performed by a dance troupe.

In continuation, how the sea connected the continent with the rest of the world was depicted.

Gangnam style performer PSY and pianist Lang Lang are among those to regale the jam-packed audience of 62,000 later in the event.

The Indian contingent has 516 athletes and 163 coaches and support staff. India will be participating in 28 disciplines. Men's national hockey team captain Sardar Singh has been bestowed with honour of being the flag-bearer. A total of 13,000 athletes will take part in 439 events.
