The transfer season is upon us and so the rumours have started. Most of these rumours circulating the internet are bogus and crazy. So, here is a list of transfers that have absolutely no chance of happening.
Carlos Tevez to Liverpool
Why the rumours? – Suarez supposedly is being courted by Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus and AS Monaco. He isn’t happy in England and his transfer looks almost certain. If he leaves Liverpool, the team will have only Daniel Sturridge as a recognized striker and they will be looking for a person worthy enough to replace Suarez.
Manchester City, on the other hand, are on the market for a high-profile striker. With the ones they already have, Tevez might find it difficult to get a place in the starting XI.
Why it will not happen - Tevez is an experienced Premier League striker who consistently performs well despite professional as well as personal issues. So, Manchester City are unlikely to off-load Tevez. Then, there is the issue of wages. Will Tevez take a cut in pay to join Liverpoool? Not likely.
Cesc Fabregas to Manchester United
Why the rumours – Fabregas is apparently out of favour at Barcelona falling down the pecking order which consists of Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets. With the arrival of Neymar, changes in the formation might oust Fabregas from the lineup permanently. Manchester United, on the other hand, are out of options in the midfield. Michael Carrick had a fantastic season but it would be too much to ask him to perform at that level consistently. They need a talisman in the midfield, and Fabregas might well be the missing cog.
Why it will not happen - Nobody has given a hint regarding the transfer. Although they are not in immediate need for Fabregas, will Barcelona let a proven world-class footballer leave? Will Fabregas leave his boyhood club after stating that it is his dream to perform well at Nou Camp? All very unlikely.
Fabregas in his own words has spoken that “If someone says anything that isn’t that I want to play at Barca, it’s completely absurd.”
Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona
Why the rumours - “The Verminator”, as he was fondly called by the Gooners now, is not even a certainty in Arsenal‘s starting line-up. A season ago, he was Arsenal’s club captain, but now he is languishing in the bench. Vermaelen’s talents are unquestionable, but his performances have been sub-par. Barcelona, on the other hand, are out of defenders. They have been forced to play Song and Mascherano in central defense. Given Barcelona and Arsenal’s amicability in earlier transfers, Vermaelen’s transfer to Nou Camp sounds reasonable.
Why it will not happen – Arsenal fans would be tired of seeing their players donning Barcelona shirts by now. Their management can’t risk alienating its fans by selling another player to Barcelona. Moreover, Vermaelen has not expressed any interest in a transfer. Wenger wouldn’t take a drastic measure of selling a player just because he had one bad season. So, it is likely that Vermaelen will stay with Arsenal this year.
Edinson Cavani to Chelsea
Why the rumours – Mourinho apparently wants to sign a perfect striker and he is interested in Cavani. Other reports suggest that Chelsea might offer money plus Torres for Cavani’s signature. Cavani himself has said that he wants to move to a ‘bigger club’ in the summer.
Why it will not happen – Cavani will move, but the destination might not be Chelsea. His father recently said, “Cavani’s intention is to play for Madrid,” and he then added, “he is excited about it and is very willing to see it through”. With Higuain reportedly set for a move to Arsenal, Madrid will be one striker less, and who better than Cavani to fill in that place? Real Madrid might have no problems in triggering Cavani’s release clause that is worth £ 54 million. Cavani himself has commented two days ago that “Real Madrid are a beautiful team, every player dreams of playing there when he is a child.”
So, Cavani to Chelsea looks unlikely as of this moment.
Andre Villas-Boas and Gareth Bale to PSG
Why the rumours – Carlo Ancelotti is all set to take the vacant managerial position at Real Madrid. This means that PSG need a manager. According to reports, PSG are considering a £85 million move for Gareth Bale and also a £10 million buyout for Bale’s current manager, Andre Villas-Boas. No man including Daniel Levy would be foolish enough to reject such an offer. For PSG, it would mean having a young, charismatic manager along with one of the best players in the world today.
Why it will not happen – PSG supposedly are also looking for other options like ex-England manager Fabio Capello and Guus Hiddink. Daniel Levy has apparently agreed upon on the demands of Andre Villas-Boas and has decided to back him up with as much muscle as possible in the transfer market. So, it is quite possible that AVB will stay at White Hart Lane. Also, Bale’s move to Real Madrid looks more likely every passing day. So, it seems that PSG might not spoil the party after all.
