GSBS 2016 trains its sights firmly on building the foundation for stronger sport training fraternity

The Times of India Global Sports Business Show 2016, will be held from the 21st to 23rd of December

Sports in India is witnessing a radical change with forward-looking reforms being implemented to usher in a culture of sports within the country. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in conjunction with the HRD Ministry are playing their part to ensure that India meets its ambitious vision of creating some of the world’s finest sportspersons.

These bodies are aggressively promoting the inculcation of sports at a grass root level. Indeed, schools and colleges remain key to the nurturing and grooming of tomorrow’s sports talent pool across the nation.

Importance of coaches

The coaches of today play a critical role in moulding the nascent talent of budding sportspeople. More than just the stereotypical role portrayed by some or enabling the racking up of points on a scoreboard, though, the right coach can help unlock the talent of a budding sportsperson in much the same way as access to the right infrastructure can.

The finest of sportspeople down the ages have scaled the summit of their respective sports backed by the guiding hand of some of the game’s finest coaches. Sportspeople and their coaches share a symbiotic relationship, with prime examples of this seen across the sporting spectrum.

Sachin Tendulkar and Ramakant Achrekar; Pete Sampras and Robert Lansdorp; Cristiano Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson; P.V. Sindhu with Pullela Gopichand; the list of sporting synergies is a long and illustrious one. Indeed, the best of coaches see the unpolished diamond glinting within an aspiring sportsperson, and it is only after a coach helps a sportsperson tap into their latent potential that they stand glittering on the world stage.
