India's special athletes return home with 387 medals from the Asia Pacific Olympic Games

The team of special athletes from India have returned from the first ever Asia Pacific Olympic Games with a superb haul of 387 medals.

This first of its kind Games for physically and mentally challenged athletes was held in Newcastle, Australia between December 1 to 7. Over 2,200 athletes from over 29 countries participated at the event and the Indian contingent did extremely well to return with a superb haul of 111 gold, 136 silver and 140 bronze to register a tally of 387 medals overall.

The medals came across various disciplines in a multitude of sports such as athletics, aquatics, basketball, badminton, cricket, football and table tennis.

Two sisters, 18-year old Kirti Kalra and 13-year-old Simran Kalra, with intellectual disabilities and impaired hearing respectively, each won three gold medals, according to a release from the PTI.
