Mumbai Half Marathon to be held on August 21

Mumbai, Aug 11 (IANS) Over 15,000 runners are set to participate in the inaugural Mumbai Half Marathon 2016 schedule to be held on August 21.

Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar, the face of the event, will also be present at the event to cheer participants.

Providing a platform for Indian runners and promoting distance running in India, the marathon will see more than 15,000 participants across four categories - 21K Half Marathon, 10K Timed Run, 10K Corporate Relay and 5K Heritage Run. The total prize money for this event is set at Rs.30 lakh across various categories.

There has been an overwhelming response in registrations for the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Mumbai Half Marathon.

Around 5,000 entries have come in for the Mumbai Half Marathon and 4500 for the 10KTimed Run. Another 6000 participants will take to the road in the 5K Heritage Run.

The race will see runners from all walks of life and across different age groups. Octogenarian Janardan B.R. is the oldest participant for this event and at the age of 83; this inspirational runner is all set to motivate and encourage runners at the Half Marathon.

"We are truly amazed with the response we have received from Mumbaikars. We have so far had some great promo runs in the city and are totally looking forward to final race day. We are totally excited and promise to make this a memorable running experience for the marathoners," race director Nagaraj Adiga said.
