Rio 2016 president Carlos Nuzman has vowed organisers will not become complacent despite declaring the city "ready" for this year's Olympic Games.

Nuzman made the comments on Tuesday in a speech to mark the final visit by the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) coordination commission before the games begin on August 5, reports Xinhua.

"The Games are ready - this is not a dream or a Brazilian way to hide reality," Nuzman said. "There is no complacency. We know exactly what we need over the next months. We also know how much it costs.

"Right now Rio is the capital of the Olympic world and thanks to the Games we have a transformed city. Brazil is catching the Olympic fever. Thanks to sport, the country is engaging with a positive agenda."

The Globo newspaper reported that the IOC was giving "special attention" to the velodrome -- Rio's track cycling venue -- and the Olympic stadium, which will host track and field events.

The velodrome's test event was cancelled last month due to unfinished construction work while the Olympic stadium is still awaiting the installation of a running track.

"The next days will be crucial," IOC coordination commission chairwoman Nawal El Moutawakel told organisers. "We are counting on every one of you."
